November 2018 Workshops!
We are so excited about the workshops we’re offering but feel bad that we’re making you choose between them!
We have three workshop tracks, Faith, Art, and Social Justice. On Saturday you will choose 2 out of the six. You can do a straight track of two of the same or mix them up.
Saturday Morning 11:00 a.m.
FAITH: DIANA SHIFLETT: SPIRITUAL PRACTICES IN COMMUNITY (Based on Diana’s book coming out in December: Spiritual Practices in Community: Drawing Groups into the Heart of God. Diana Shiflett is the pastor of spiritual formation at Naperville Covenant Church in Naperville, Illinois. She is an adjunct professor of youth ministry at North Park University, and a licensed spiritual director. She has a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton College. (So much in our lives leaves us feeling empty. Come get filled up engaging in spiritual practices with one another. This interactive workshop will give you personal time to connect with God as well as connect others in the room as we move deeply into the heart of God together.)
ART: ANASTASIA ROBIESON: ILLUSTRATED FAITH: BEING ARTSY WITH GOD. Anastasia is a left-handed individual with a distinct interest in Netflix. She is a songwriter and musician for The Uh Ohs and a self-taught visual artist. She can often be found making mac and cheese and looking at cats. (The art workshops have a $10 supply fee.)
SOCIAL JUSTICE: SONGINE CLARK: RESISTANCE AND HOPE: STAY IN THE FIGHT AND NOT GROW WEARY. Songine Clarke is a writer from the east coast who has fallen in love with Chicago over the last nine years. She graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2012 where she studied Journalism and Arts, Entertainment, Media Management. Songine‘ had plans to become a fashion journalist after college, but the Lord had other plans for her as her concern for the marginalized and oppressed in Chicago and beyond continued to grow. Songine‘s passions are speaking up and speaking out about issues on race, gender, and class; she is also passionate about art, reading books, and coffee. She now works for Communities First Association and L!VE Cafe and is continuing to find ways to balance her love for writing with activism.
Saturday Afternoon: 2:00 p.m.
FAITH: TRACEY BIANCHI: True You: Finding Your Peace, Strength, Agency and the Wisdom to Use Your Voice. Tracey is the Worship and Teaching pastor at Christ Church of Oak Brook. She is also a featured writer and speaker for MOPS International and an editorial advisor for Gifted for Leadership.
ART: JOY WILLIAMS: POCKET PRAYERS (Create tangible hand-sewn “pocket shrines.” Joy will bring all sorts supplies: fabric, velvet, felt, mini charms, images, printed verses, embroidery floss, stamps, and even a typewriter. We will discuss what we would like to include in our pocket prayers that we can pull out and look at during times we need to be reminded of God’s faithfulness. In addition to Joy’s supplies for the 2″ x 2″ shrines, you may bring your own pictures, charms, and favorite verse that hold meaning for you.) Joy Williams is an amazing preschool teacher and is in the process of opening her own daycare in Chicago. She is a worship leader, singer, songwriter and co-founder of Deeply Rooted. She is also jazzed for crafts. (The art workshops have a $10 supply fee.)
SOCIAL JUSTICE: KIMBERLY MAJESKI, WOMEN AND RESISTANCE: PROPHETS AND PRIESTS, AND PROSTITUTES. Kimberly is a scholar, storyteller, and activist who challenges her audiences to find the life-transforming connection between their personal story and the inspiring, ancient story of the Scriptures. She has served in many pastoral and leadership roles in local and national contexts, today, Kimberly serves as Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries at Anderson University. Additionally, She is founder and CEO of Stripped Inc., a not for profit ministry empowering women in the sex trade to walk out of fear and into love.
